Alongside of the print release, Mammoth also interviewed me:
What made you decide to take the academic route with your illustration? What impact did that have on your art?
I never knew that I would specifically go down the illustration route, one of my favourite years of education was my foundation course and after that year I knew that I strived to do something creative as a future.
The academic route enabled me to learn the value of different process’s and techniques whether it be printmaking or bookbinding and it also helped to mould the overall aesthetic of my work today.
What inspires you to create? Are there any artists out there in particular that feed your inspiration?
For some reason I don’t know why but I always feel inspired after watching inventive and imaginative film, I’m a huge fan of 80’s adventure movies such as The Goonies, Honey I shrunk the Kids, The Explorers and The Dark Crystal to name a few. There is something about the way the film sets are low-fi/ handmade that makes the whole atmosphere somewhat more real. I also feel inspired after taking a day off to go cycling and see friends.
